‘Double-standard’ of disqualification law
People’s reaction made difference ‘quite obvious’: Marriyum
ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb Sunday said the law that did not disqualify the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan should also be applied to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
Talking to private TV channels here, she said the double standard application of law for disqualification invited criticism.
She said the people’s reaction to both the decisions had made the difference quite obvious. “When the verdict in Nawaz Sharif case was delivered, there was a severe reaction among the masses at the grass-root level, which still persists,” said the minister.
State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said when the constitutional organs of the sate hurled epithets like ‘Sicilian Mafia’ and ‘God Father’ without any solid evidence then the reaction of the people for their elected leaders was expected.
She said that nobody was satisfied with those decisions. Marriyum said the disqualification of Nawaz was not on Panama but "iqama".
