14 police recruits hurt in road crash
Fourteen recruits were injured, two of them critically, when a speeding trailer truck collided head-on with a police van near Fast University on National Highway on Sunday morning.
Officials of the Shah Latif police said the police van was taking over 30 recruits to the Razzaqabad Training Centre with a patrol mobile of the Special Security Unit providing cover. When the vehicles neared the university, a speeding truck coming the wrong way rammed into the van carrying the recruits.
The injured, all of whom were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, were identified as Anees, Zeher Hussain, Farman Ali, Irfan Ali, Rehman Ali, Sajid Meerani, Saddam Hussain, Shoaib, Abdul Latif, Mujahid Hussain, Mashooq Ali, Sajid Ali, Shujaat and Mohammad Bux.
Of them, Irfan Ali and Mashooq Ali were said to be in serious condition and remained under treatment. The truck driver, Gulab Gul, son of Rawaish Khan, had been arrested and his vehicle impounded.
