Islamabad: The residents of federal capital have urged the civic administrations to take strict action against the beggars for extracting money from the pockets of innocent citizens through exploiting their sentiments at different traffic signals, markets and streets of the city.
Using new tactics, a number of beggars including men, women and children can be seen seeking alms in markets and streets and traffic signals. Prof. Dr. Shahid Khan talking to APP said that this issue only can be resolved by joint efforts of government and society to discourage this practice.
He said that some people are habitually and professionally brought their kids in beggary to make money. Dr. Shahid said that there should be strict monitoring to control children from this menace. He said that these beggars not only creates nuisance for residents but also poses a security threat.
A number of NGOs also working to tackle this issue but they do nothing for these people on ground, said Muhammad Khan a resident of G-7, adding that beggars are still seen wandering in small groups to collect alms at different road signals, markets and signals.
A number of civil organisations and individuals voiced concern over the ever increasing problem and showed their dissatisfaction over the performance of the city governments and deplored the apathy of the police in curbing the menace.
