A local court on Tuesday took notice of the escape of an alleged smuggler, Mohammad Ibraheem, from the court premises and ordered efforts for his immediate arrest.

The court warned the customs authorities that stern legal action would be taken against them if they failed to arrest the man. Ibraheem is alleged to have smuggled foreign cigarettes and other illegal items from Iran.

The accused is a bus owner and was arrested by the customs officials with one of his employees, a driver. He managed to flee from the court premises before he could be produced before the judge. The court remanded the driver in police custody till December 15 and directed the investigation officer to catch Ibraheem.
