KARACHI: A meeting to discuss the arrangements for the 33rd National Games will be held in Quetta on December 19, a senior official of Balochistan Olympic Association (BOA) told ‘The News’ on Wednesday.
The official said that Southern Command has convened the meeting. He said that Pakistan Olympic Association’s (POA) delegation, BOA and Balochistan Sports Board (BSB) would attend the meeting.
He also revealed that on December 20 a meeting of the POA sports commission would also be held.The official added that the infrastructure is being prepared to hold the spectacle in a befitting way from April 19 to 26.
“Ayub Stadium’s pavilion is being prepared and an athletics track will also be laid there. The BSB is also busy importing some equipment from abroad,” the official said.About football, the official said that it is yet to be decided as FIFA has suspended Pakistan.
“Efforts are being made to resolve the issue. If resolved then football would also be part of the competitions,” the official said.He was confident that the infrastructure would be ready for the slots. “We still have four months and I am confident everything will be ready well before the competitions,” he said.
The official said that in April weather of Balochistan will not be cold. “I am confident we will face no problem in conducting the competitions,” the official said.The biennial spectacle has been postponed repeatedly during the last couple of years.The last National Games were hosted by Lahore in 2012.
