KARACHI: The police on Wednesday arrested a woman accused of robbing people at ATM booths in different areas of the city.
The suspect arrested by the District South police was identified as Chanda alias Amaan. She was said to be the leader of a gang that targets people leaving ATM booths and her two absconding associates were identified as Zeeshan and Waseem.
Her arrest, as per officials, came about after police conducted a raid in the Defence police’s limits on a tip off. A pistol was found in her possession. The officials said Chanda had disclosed during interrogation that she, Zeeshan and Waseem targeted people at ATM booths in Defence Housing Authority, Nursery and Tariq Road. Chanda, a resident of Shah Faisal Colony, told police that she would go on a bus to Baldia Town, where Zeeshan and Waseem live, and they would then head out on a motorcycle to conduct their illegal business.
Later, she further told police, the trio would head back to Baldia Town to distribute the money and she would then take a bus home. The Sindh Rangers arrested three men – identified as Usman alias Shanu, Asif Rajput and Jawed alias Ali – for involvement in committing cybercrime offences. As per a spokesman of the paramilitary force, the three suspects were arrested in a raid conducted in Gulberg.
The three men were accused of defrauding people on social media platforms through fake schemes promising prize money and other cybercrime offences. The Rangers also arrested a Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London activist, Mohammed Karman alias Kami, in a raid in Madina Colony. He is accused of creating panic through aerial firing during strike calls and of casting bogus votes during the general elections of 2008 and 2013.
