ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi said on Tuesday that criticism of security institutions and security forces of the country is emerging like a fashion in Pakistan.
“The elements raising questions on role of security forces for not taking action against sit-in protesters should be asked whether they wanted the military personnel to gun down the protesters,” he said, while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday at Jamia Masjid Mahaz bin Jabal, I-8/3, Islamabad. He was flanked by Maulana Abdul Hameed Sabri, Maulana Nauman Hashir, Maulana Tahir Aqeel Awan, Maulana Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Maulana Shahbaz Ahmed, Maulana Naib Khan, Maulana Ilyas Muslim, Maulana Mumtaz Rabbani, Maulana Umar Sharif, Maulana Ashfaq Patafi .
The PUC chief said when civil administration failed miserably to control sit-in protesters, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi tasked Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa to control the situation and military leadership resolved to blockade Faizabad sit-in through peaceful dialogue instead of using power against protesters. “The endeavours of security institutions and other notable individuals to end the Faizabad sit-in peacefully are laudable,” he said.
He said that PUC demands investigation into the whole matter relating to arrival of sit-in protesters and blockade of Faizabad by protesters of TLP.
