MULTAN: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Distributors Association of Pakistan has announced countrywide shutter down strike on December 9 to protest against imposition of taxes and undue financial burden on the LPG sector.
LPG Distributors Association chairman Irfan Khokhar on Friday said that the government had levied unjustified taxes on the sale of the LPG which had increased its prices in the market and ultimately put financial pressure on the common man. After levying of tax, LPG’s per kg price has been increased to Rs 300 and the price for domestic cylinder has been increased to Rs 3500, he lamented. “Instead of taking action against those who are manufacturing sub-standard LPG gas cylinders, government is just taking action against the LPG distributors who are already under pressure due to various types of taxes which has reduced our profit margin,” he complained.
He appealed to the government, Prime Minister Shahid Khan Abbasi and Ministry of Petroleum to ensure sale of domestic LPG cylinder at a rate of Rs 895 which he promised when he was the petroleum minister. He said the association would continue its efforts to ensure provision of cheap LPG to the consumers.
