Rangers arrest target killers of MQM factions

The Sindh Rangers arrested two suspected target killers during a raid in Malir on Friday. A spokesman for the paramilitary force said the two suspects were rounded up in the Model Colony area and they were later shifted to the Rangers headquarters.
The arrested men were identified as Shaikh Jawed alias Bengali and Usman Ahmed, he said, adding that the former was associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) London and the latter was affiliated with MQM-Pakistan.
Both the suspects were involved in a number of target killings, extortion cases, provision of weapons to robbers, drug peddling, armed robberies and other heinous crimes, the spokesman added. Weapons were found in their possession and the suspects were later handed over to police for further legal proceedings.
Robber shot dead
The Napier police gunned down a suspected robber during an encounter near Khyber Chowk on Friday. SHO Azam Khan said a patrolling party on Siddique Wahab Road had signalled two suspects on a motorcycle to stop, but they speeded away. When the police went after the suspects, they shot at the cops who retaliated and arrested one of them in injured condition while the other one managed to make a getaway, he added.
The SHO the injured suspect was taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. He said the deceased was identified as Asif, 30, son of Ali Nawaz. The man was allegedly part of a gang involved in snatching cash from bank customers, the SHO said.He added that the suspect was also wanted in robbery cases.
