The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday claimed to have found a cache of weapons and ammunition inside an underground water tank at Manzoor Colony and arrested a Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) unit incharge during a raid.

CTD Karachi SSP Investigation Naveed Ahmed Nisar Khawaja said in his press statement that he along with CTD investigation incharge Chaudhry Ghulam Safdar conducted a raid at the Haji Haneef Shaheed Park in Manzoor Colony where they recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from an underground water tank.

During the raid, the incharge of party’s unit six, Muhammad Arshad Mughal, was arrested, he added. SSP Khawaja said the seized weapons included seven 7mm rifles, two 12 bore repeaters, two MP5 rifles, one LMG along with magazine, five Kalashnikovs, one 3 not 3 rifle, 516 bullets of different bore and 37 shells of 12 bore.

He said the suspect during a preliminary interrogation told the police that he was serving as the party’s unit incharge and was appointed as a gardener in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). SSP Khawaja said that seven more KMC gardeners were working for the MQM-L and they all were getting salaries at their house without attending the workplace. The suspect said the seized weapons were in use of MQM-L activists who had dumped the arms cache inside the water tank, he added.
