PG trainee doctors will be paid, says secretary

LAHORE :Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah on Thursday said some 2,000 beds have been added to the system to upgrade teaching hospitals. He said these beds would be utilised for teaching and training of postgraduate (PG) doctors.
According to a press release, he was presiding over a meeting in connection with the central induction policy for PG doctors. He directed the officials concerned to collect data of up gradation and accordingly enhance the PG specialisation seats.
Punjab Health Special Secretary Dr Sajid Chohan, King Edward Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Qazi Saeed, Fatima Jinnah Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) Principal Prof Mehmood Ayaz, Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Prof Ghaus-un-Nabi Tayyab, Allama Iqbal Medical College Principal Prof Rashid Zia, Prof Syed Muhammad Awais, Prof Amir Zaman Khan, Prof Ibrar Ashraf, Children Hospital Dean Prof Masood Sadiq, Additional Secretary Development Shahid Rehman, Additional Secretary Technical Dr Salman Shahid and PITB Director Badar attended the meeting.
Najam Ahmed Shah said no PG trainee doctor would be left without getting stipend. He showed concern about non-payment of stipend to the PG trainee doctors in some institutions and directed to remove all procedural hurdles in payment of stipend. He said the performance of medical staff recruited on adhoc basis would be strictly monitored on monthly basis. He directed immediate termination of staff not showing satisfactory performance. He asked the principals of teaching hospitals to submit a report in this regard.
In response to a suggestion regarding inclusion of new specialties in the PG ship, he said the concerned committee would review it on all aspects. He observed that timeline for completion of every project was essential as we could not achieve the targets without timelines.
PGMI: Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal (PGMI) Prof Dr Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab on Thursday issued an order to stop parking private ambulances and rickshaws in the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) parking. He constituted a committee to monitor that only patients’ and doctors’ vehicles are parked inside.
According to a press release, he ordered this while taking notice of a quarrel between security personnel and attendants of a patient. He advised the hospital staff to keep their behaviour gentle and deal the attendants with patience. He ordered administration to update personal information about security guards at hospital. He also appealed the patients and their attendants to remain cooperative in the hospital. Everyone should follow ‘one patient, one attendant rule’. It would save both our time and patients’ moral as they will see less crowded hospitals, he said.
Prof Ghias-un-Nabi said the Lahore General Hospital would continue to deliver best medical services to the patients. He assured that no unpleasant incident would happen in future.
FJMU: Punjab Information Technology Board Chairman Dr Omar Saif on Thursday assured that PITB would extend cooperation to Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) in the field of information technology. He was inaugurating the new official website of FJMU. Speaking to FJMU teaching faculty and students, he said usually female students easily got admission in medical universities on merit but very few of them choose to work in the field. There is a dire need to enhance human resource in medical field which can only be possible by the contribution of female doctors. Referring the poem of Kishwar Naheed, he said women should be encouraged to adopt the profession of savior.
Association of Old Graduates of Fatima Jinnah Medical College President Professor Mussarat Nisar was the guest of the honour. Association’s executive body members including Prof Muniza, Prof Nishat Maqsood, Prof Muneera, Prof Mah-e-laqa Rana also attended the ceremony. They assured full support of the association to take the university among the top ranking universities.
FJMU Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, Registrar Prof Shereen Khawar, Chairman Deans’ Committee Prof Manzoor Ahmad spoke on the occasion.
