A police constable who shot and injured a teenage girl for throwing garbage on him was arrested by the Baghdadi police on Monday.
Baghdadi police Duty Officer (DO) Tanveer Ahmed said Constable Zaid shot 18-year-old Gul Janaan for throwing garbage on him from her apartment’s balcony. The police reached the scene and arrested Zaid and recovered an unlicensed 9mm pistol and two live rounds from his possession, added Ahmed.
Zaid, in his statement, said he had come back from work when someone threw garbage on him. He said he saw Janaan in her balcony above him and opened fire in a fit of rage. With the policeman having fired five shots at her, the girl was lucky to have been hit just once in the arm. The DO said that the 18-year-old was taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi where doctors said she was out of danger.
The police recovered casings of five spent bullets and registered an FIR against the constable on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Imran Khan. Zaid was deployed at the Civil Lines police station. An unlicensed weapon was also recovered from his possession.
