Tribute paid to police martyrs

LAHORE: Lahore police organised a ceremony to pay tributes to martyrs of Punjab Police on the National Police Shuhada Day at Alhamra Hall on Friday

Addressing the ceremony, Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Capt (r) Arif Nawaz Khan said, “I salute all martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and to save the life, honour and property of the citizens which is the most noble cause in the world.”  

The IG said that it was a matter of honour and pride for him that he was the commander of a force which was the custodian of more than 1,400 martyrs. He said that a DIG rank officer is deputed at the CPO and a DSP rank officer at the district level to take care of the welfare of the families of the martyrs and to solve their problems on their doorstep. 

He also said that all the families of martyrs were like his own family and he would try his level best to solve their problems at the earliest on their doorstep. For the welfare of the families of martyrs and to solve their problems, Lahore police launched an App “Welfare Eye” and under this App the problems of Shuhada's families were being solved on just one SMS and it would be replicated throughout Punjab very soon.

Punjab Sports Minister Jahangir Khanzada attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Provincial Minister Zakia Shah Nawaz, senior journalists, lawyers, teachers and the families of martyrs were also present. Jahangir Khanzada while paying tributes to the police martyrs said that he was also son of a martyr and this fact was a pride for him. He also said, "Like Punjab Police, my morale too is high and it is my promise as citizen of Pakistan that we will fight against the terrorists till the last breath."

Lahore CCPO Capt (R) Amin Wains said that history of Lahore police was full of sacrifices.  He said that the sacrifice of about 300 martyrs of Lahore police was evident that every officer and official of Punjab and Lahore police was always ready to sacrifice the most precious thing in the line of duty. He also said that police are the main target of terrorists. He added, "We lost our best officers and officials during the last few months but our morale is still high because the sacrifices of martyrs gave us courage to serve the nation with zeal and zest."

The children and relatives of the martyrs and people of civil society also addressed the ceremony and paid tributes to martyrs. The families of police martyrs thanked to the Police Department for being so keen for their welfare. At the end of the ceremony lunch was served in honour of the families of the martyrs and other participants. The IG distributed gift packs among the children of martyrs after the lunch.

Earlier, Holy Quran was recited and Fateh was offered for the martyrs at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines and all the police lines in all districts in Punjab after Fajr prayers. Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Capt (r) Arif Nawaz Khan offered Fateh and laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhda at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines . Guard of honour was also presented by police contingent at Yadgar-e-Shuhda. Police officers in all districts early in the morning visited the graves of Shuhda and offered Fateha. Throughout Punjab all RPOs and DPOs arranged special ceremonies on the National Police Shuhada Day to pay tributes to the sacrifices of the martyrs.

Motorway Police: Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Police was observed to honour the sacrifices of National Highways and Motorway Police officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty.  Prayer ceremonies were held the Zonal Headquarters, Lahore and different places on the national highways. Candles were lit and banners displayed at prominent places to pay tribute to the sacrifices of Shuhada.  

DIG Mirza Faran Baig, SSP Masroor Alam Kolachi, other NH&MP officers and families of Shuhada participated in the ceremonies. The martyrdom of a cop lightens up the light of society and also boosts the morale of nation. The blood of martyr cleans of all the stains and blame on police department, said DIG Mirza Faran Baig while addressing a Yaum-e-Shuhada-e-Police ceremony. He said the Motorway Police Shudhas were exceptionally courageous officers, in fact, a pride for the country.

Earlier, DIG Mirza Faran Baig also laid floral wreath on the memorial of Shuhada at NH&MP Line headquarters , Lahore. He also assured the families of Shuhada that all kind of efforts would be made to solve their problems. Sector Commander SSP Masroor Alam Kolachi also paid tribute to the Shuhada. Gifts and shields were also distributed among the heirs to Shuhada on the occasion.

Dr Numan Aslam, son of Shaheed SPO Muhammed Aslaam, said “Motorway Police helped us both emotionally and financially." Similarly, Hamna Adnan, daughter of Shaheed Adnan Gull, said, “We are feeling proud as a part of Motorway Police family where each and single person support us.”  Fatima Imtiaz, daughter of Shaheed Inspector Rana Imtiaz, said “Motorway Police provide feelings of shelter to us." The other heirs to Shuhada also shared the golden memories of their loved ones with the participants on the occasion.
