LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday restrained the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) from collecting taxes. The judge also sought assistance of advocate general, Punjab, for interpretation of law points and deferred further hearing of petition against constitution of PRA till the second week of September. A taxpayer, Anwar Attique Malik, filed the petition claiming that the PRA was not properly constituted and as such its functioning was illegal. He said the PRA was collecting millions of rupees from the citizens by imposing tax on services. He claimed that the authority constitution under the Punjab Revenue Authority Act was incomplete; hence it could not recover any tax. He said the Supreme Court had rendered a decision against the authority. The petitioner requested the court to restrain PRA from issuing notice for recovery of tax.
