NOWSHERA: Deputy Chairman Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri on Saturday met Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) chief Maulana Samiul Haq to discuss the formation of a possible alliance between the religio-political parties.

Maulana Ghafoor Haideri, who is a senior leader of the Maulana Fazlur Rahman-led Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F), met with Maulana Samiul Haq at his residence in Akora Khattak in Nowshera district. JUI-F Khyber Pakhtunkhwa general secretary Maulana Shujaul Mulk, the party’s Sindh general secretary Maulana Rashid Soomro, lawyer Sikandar Khan from Quetta in Balochistan and Iqbal Awan from Rawalpindi and others were also present during the meeting.

They discussed the role and alliance of religious parties in the next general election.

Maulana Samiul Haq said the alliance of religious political parties was necessary for the protection of Islamic identity of the country.

He shared some his bitter experiences about the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), the alliance of six religious parties that won the 2002 polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and formed the government. He told the meeting that all the parties in any alliance required respect for each other’s opinion.

Maulana Ghafoor Haideri said that the reservations of Maulana Samiul Haq would be considered seriously before entering into any new alliance of religious parties.
