LAHORE

Dr Fatima Hussain, a PhD Indian scholar, writer and teacher, has yet come up with a brilliant book on Palestine question with the same title “The Palestine Question”, recently published and well taken on both sides of the divide.

Fatima Hussain is no stranger to her Muslim and Pakistani readers for her in-depth, scholarly and research oriented books of history, specially the Muslim history, profound and inspiring teacher of History at Delhi University. She was educated at Lady Shri Ram College and did her MPhil and PhD at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Peace, conflict resolution and women’s emancipation (especially within Islamic societies) are issues which are close to heart.

The Palestine question is being answered with a historical prospective by Dr Fatima and Fareed Ali Shamsi in this book. Its research oriented scholastic as well as humanistic examination of this centuries old question by these scholars. The Palestine suffered and struggled hard to find a right place under the sun. They were driven out and displaced from their homes and made refugees looking for shelter in the neighbouring countries.

The authors decided to work on the issue in a historical perspective to understand the genesis of the problem and its later developments and ramifications, while at the same time, analysing the issue in terms of then and current international politics.

While doing so they have also analysed the interests and roles of the neighbouring countries, the big powers specially the US, the Great Britain and the erstwhile Soviet Union. The role of the United Nations and the positive role played by the India, Yugoslavia and other countries are also highlighted in the work.

Dr Fatima is also the author of the War thatwasn’t: the Sufi and the Sultan, Munshiram Manoharlal, New Delhi, 2009. She has co-authored The Palestine Question: a historical perspective, 1st edition, Manak Publication, New Delhi, 2003. She edited Sufism and Bhakti Movement: Contemporary Relevance, The classic publications, Lahore, 2008 and authored Sufism Revisited, Sang-e-Meel Publications, Lahore, 2010.

And her latest book “Perspectives” has been published by The Classic Publications, Lahore, 2016. Several of her scholarly articles have been published in journals and dailies of repute.
