LAHORE
Despite the ban on kite-flying in the provincial capital, partial violation of the law was witnessed in densely populated areas on Sunday.
Enthusiasts of the sport were spotted flying kites in various parts of the city. Areas where citizens violated the ban include Samanabad, Nawan Kot, Millat Park, Ichhara, Subzazar, Lower Mall, Ravi Road, Badami Bagh, and Iqbal Town.
Afghans held: Law enforcing agencies carried out a search operation in the adjoining areas of Lahore airport on Sunday and arrested three suspects. The suspects belonged to Afghanistan and were living in a rented house with fake identities. It was reported that the suspects identified as Jalal, Suleman and Azar were affiliated with a defunct organization. They were taken to an undisclosed location for further investigation.
Swindlers kill man: A man lost his life at the hands of some swindlers in the area of Lower Mall on Sunday. It was reported that a man, yet to be identified, was passing through the Lower Mall area when he suddenly fell on the road and went unconscious. Some passers-by rushed him to hospital where he died.
PHP: The Punjab Highway Patrol rendered help to 171,354 travelers in distress and arrested 2,327 criminals during 2014. The PHP also removed 4,367 encroachments and re-united 361 missing children with their parents. The PHP faced 17 encounters with criminals and arrested 15 culprits out of 60. The PHP also arrested 63 proclaimed offenders (POs) and 10 court absconders.
