Strengthen global cooperation for win-win development
The Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) will be held on May 14-15 in Beijing. Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony and chair the leaders' roundtable summit. Leaders from 29 countries including Pakistan will attend the BRF. There are also 1500 representatives from over 130 countries and 70 international organizations will attend the forum. The theme of BRF is strengthening international cooperation and co-building the Belt and Road for win-win development.
The BRF has been the highest level of international conference held by China since President Xi Jinping put forward the Belt and Road Initiative in 2013. The past four years have witnessed the launching, expansion, faster-than-expected progress and fruitful outcomes of the Belt and Road Initiative.
At present, the foundation for global economic recovery is not solid, trade investment remains weak, and growth impetus is also unstable. The BRF is aimed to strengthen regional connectivity, build new cooperation platforms and explore new development path together.
The BRF will focus on achieving outcomes in four aspects. First, pool more consensus. Documents will be issued on leaders' roundtable summit to identify goals and principles for cooperation, and specify cooperation measures.
Second, determine cooperation directions. The BRF will decide important bilateral and multilateral cooperation fields for the next stage, draw up cooperation plans for the next five years or longer, and specify the detailed action plans. China will work with other countries to formulate nearly 20 action plans.
Third, lay emphasis on the implementation of projects. The BRF will push forward key cooperation projects, transform leaders' political consensus into execution for specific projects.
Fourth, improve supporting system. The BRF will introduce a series of significant policies and measures, including strengthening financial cooperation mechanism, constructing platforms in science, technology, and environmental protection, etc. As a major and pilot project of the Belt and Road Initiative, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has been widely recognized as the most fruitful project under the Belt and Road Initiative. We warmly welcome Pakistan to attend the BRF and contribute to the success of the BRF. China and Pakistan will deepen their cooperation with the Belt and Road Initiative being implemented. I am confident that China-Pakistan relationship will become a role model for developing countries to pursue mutual beneficial cooperation and build a community of shared future for mankind.
Mr. Sun Weidong is Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan.
