Jirga seeks probe into appointments in Mardan varsity
PESHAWAR: The Amn Jirga’s provincial head, Syed Kamal Shah, has warned the government of staging a protest outside the Governor’s House and Chief Minister’s House if the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan was reopened in haste without purging it of all ‘inefficient and corrupt’ people.
Speaking at a meeting here on Friday, he urged the government to conduct an investigation into the appointments made in the university during the last nine years. He said that Mashal Khan-like tragedies would happen if the university was reopened without improving the system that had been ruined by the corrupt people at the helms of affairs.
Syed Kamal Shah alleged that ‘corrupt elements and conspirators’ were still present in the university administration, which had led to the killing of Mashal Khan. He said the lynching incident earned a bad name for the university in the country and abroad. He alleged that the appointments from Class-IV to Grade-20 at the university were made in violation of merit.
Syed Kamal Shah further alleged that people with criminal record had been appointed against low-ranking positions at the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan. The university had become a den of weapons and drugs, he said, adding that outsiders visited the university without any hindrance.
