Second phase of census begins in Punjab cities’’

MULTAN: Commissioner Bilal Ahmad Butt and Deputy Commissioner Nadir Chattha inaugurated the second phase of census in the Gulgasht Colony on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said that exemplary measures had been taken for successful completion of the census in collaboration with security forces. He said that the census was being held after 19 years that would help the government identify its priorities.

He said that the district had been divided into 26 charges 1,999 circles and 132 blocks while more than 1,000 staff would perform duties during the census. He said that the census would continue till May 25.

He said that a special control room had been set up at the Multan Emerson College where representatives of army and district government would be available round-the-clock. Deputy Commissioner Nadir Chattha said that foolproof security would be provided to the census teams and law-enforcing agencies would be  part of each census team. He said that transport would be provided to each team.

GUJRANWALA: The second phase of the census began amid tight security in the division on Tuesday. Commissioner Muhammad Asif inaugurated the second phase by marking the housing census number at the Deputy Commissioner’s House. Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Amir Jan, ADC-General Dr Rani Kanwal, AC-General Anjum Riaz Sethi and AC Census Riaz Ahmed were also present on the occasion. In the second phase, house listing would be done during the first three days while in the next 11 days operation would be completed for which Gujranwala had been divided into 3,376 blocks and 493 circles. Control rooms had been set up at the district and tehsil levels to monitor the progress. Every team would cover two blocks while army and civil personnel would accompany each team for security purposes.

CHAKWAL: The census process was inaugurated in the district on Tuesday from the residence of Chakwal Deputy Commissioner Dr Umar Jahangir.

Brigadier Imran Masood Kashfi and Colonel Muhammad Tufail were also present when the census was inaugurated. Talking to reporters, the DC said 1,800 police officials and army personnel personal are deployed throughout the district to maintain law and order. The DC told DPO M Haroon Joyia himself is monitoring the security arrangements. He said two control rooms at DC office and DPO office Chakwal have been established to observe day to day monitoring. Brigadier Kashfi urged the general public to cooperate with the census staff. The census will be completed by May 25 and 1,029 school teachers are conducting the census. The DPO also told about police duties for the census process.

NANKANA SAHIB: Like other parts of the country, the second phase of the census was started here on Tuesday.

The census started by DC Saira Umar by mentioning the District Public School (DPS) building as home number one. Talking to journalists, the DC said that Nankana, Shahkot and Sangla Hill had been divided into charge, circles and blocks. She said that 1,000 police personnel would provide security to the census teams while 897 personnel of different departments, including revenue, would perform census duties. She said that the troops led by Lt-Col Jehanzeb would also protect the census teams.

APP adds from Sargodha: Like other parts of the country, the second phase of census began here on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chattha inaugurated the census. Brig Amjad Rasheed, DPO Sohail Ahmed Chaudhry, Col Farhan Qureshi and others were also present on the occasion.

The district had been divided into 51 charges, 411 circles and 3,029 blocks, while 2,174 field staff would perform duties, in which 508 supervisory staff, 1,666 data entry operators and same number of army men were taking part in the census.
