33-member Parliamentary Committee on National Security formed

ISLAMABAD: Consequent upon motions adopted by the National Assembly on 21st and the Senate on 28th March, 2017, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, in consultation with the Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani, has constituted a 33-member Parliamentary Committee on National Security.

The 24-member committee, with the chairmanship of Ayaz Sadiq, comprises all the parliamentary leaders of the parliamentary parties of both the houses of parliament, including MNAs Zahid Hamid, Syed Naveed Qamar, Imran Khan, Dr Farooq Sattar, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi, Ghaus Bux Khan Mahar, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Sahibzada Tariqullah, Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Ijazul Haq, Sardar Kamal Khan Bangulzai, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, Engineer Usman Khan Tarakai, Iftikharuddin, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Syed Essa Nori, Al-Haaj Shah Jee Gul Afridi, senators Mushahidullah Khan, Sherry Rehman, Dr Jahnzeb Jamaldini, Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Hidyatullah, Talha Mehmood, Saeedul Hassan Mandokhail, Sirajul Haq, Mir Israrullah Khan Zehri, Usman Khan Kakar, Azam Khan Swati and Ilyas Ahmed Bilour.

The terms of reference of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security has also been announced with the formation of the committee, which include discussion of relating to national security of urgent nature, periodically reviewing, monitoring and overseeing implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) with a view to ensuring its expeditious implementation, to monitor the process of transition from military courts to civil courts through criminal justice reforms and to present periodical reports of the committee to both houses of the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament).

Furthermore, Ayaz Sadiq, who heads the committee, may make changes in the composition of the committee as and when required. The committee may make rules to regulate its procedure.
