Karachi A religion teacher and a shopkeeper were gunned down in separate parts of the city on Wednesday. Muhammad Sohaib, 30, was gunned down by unidentified motorcyclists near the Madni mosque in Block 7 of Federal B Area, said an Azizabad police official. The victim was a religion teacher, who visited children’s houses to teach them Quran. He was a resident of Liaquatabad. In Lyari, unidentified gangsters gunned down Muhammad Ali, 27, at his shop near the Jhatpat Market, said a Kalakot police official. Investigators said gangsters associated with the Uzair Baloch group had probably killed the shopkeeper on suspicion of being an informer. ‘Robbers’ shot dead Two alleged robbers were shot dead during a shoot-out with police officials in District Central in the wee hours. A patrolling party of Shahrah-e-Noorjehan police officials spotted two suspects on a motorcycle near the Abdullah College and signalled them to stop for identification. Instead of complying, the suspects opened fire on the law enforcers and attempted to speed away. However, retaliatory firing resulted in the suspects’ deaths. They appeared to be in their late 20s. Police found two pistols on the suspects and impounded their motorcycle. A day earlier, 15 people, including women and children, were wounded in a bomb attack in Lyari. Napier police official said two men on a motorcycle had hurled the bomb at a group of people in Bheem Pura. Lyari SP Aftab Nizamani said bomb disposal squad officials were yet to ascertain whether the bomb was a homemade cracker or a hand grenade.
