President for effective role of engineers, scientists in CPEC’s implementation

Islamabad: President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday called for an effective role of engineers and scientists to make the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) successful in order to improve the livelihood of the common man.

“All sections of the society, particularly the engineering community and the higher educational institutions needed to work collectively for pushing forward this gigantic project to transfer its huge socio-economic benefits to the people,” he stated this while addressing an international seminar held here on ‘CPEC- Opportunities and Challenges’ that was jointly organized by the Institution of Engineers, Pakistan (IEP) and National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST).

The largely attended seminar was also addressed by Chinese ambassador Sun Weidong who enlightened the audience about rich benefits of CPEC, stating that it is a unique project of China-Pakistan common destiny and common interest. It works as an important platform for economic development and a win-win situation for both the countries. On behalf of the Chinese embassy, he assured full support to the organizers of the seminar promoting public awareness about this highly significant project.

Sun Weidong said the CPEC will help to promote the regional connectivity and make possible fast pace development in Pakistan and the region as a whole in accordance with aspirations of the people of two countries. He told the participants that the CPEC was moving ahead on fast-track basis and the people of Pakistan will soon take its dividends.

He also spoke about the growing Sino-Pak friendship and said it was bringing peace and happiness in the life of the common man. Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in his message on the occasion said that CPEC is an inspiring model of cooperation among developing countries, particularly China and Pakistan to promote peace, development and prosperity. He hoped that CPEC will help the entire region to get rid of deprivation, reducing poverty and to bringing peace and prosperity that perfectly complements Pakistan’s vision 2025.

The seminar’s inaugural session was also addressed by Federal Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain, President IEP Dr. Izhar-ul-Haq and Rector NUST Lieutenant General Naweed Zaman. According to Chairman IEP, Rawalpindi Islamabad Centre Hafiz M. Ehsan-Ul-Haq Qazi, the participants of the seminar will have threadbare discussion on ‘Opportunities and Challenges’ with special reference to the role of engineers and scientists towards CPEC.  President Mamnoon Hussain in his speech further said that CPEC will bring economic revolution in the country as well as in the region. He hoped that educational institutions and scientists will play their due role in dealing with upcoming challenges in the country and to get benefits of the CPEC’s related projects. Scientists should prepare a comprehensive strategy to bring the country out from confronted challenges, he added. He congratulated IEP and NUST for their excellent efforts in projecting the positive impact of C PEC. He hoped that seminar will help to raise awareness about this flagship project. The CPEC’s stake-holders, he added should try to drive optimal benefits from emerging opportunities and possibilities.
