Policeman protecting citizen injured in Zamzama shooting

A policeman was shot and injured in the city’s Clifton area on Tuesday evening when he intervened to save a woman who was being followed by a motorcyclist. 

Officials of the Clifton police said Constable Ghulam Hussain Junejo, who was posted on duty at the residence of MNA Asghar Junejo, saw a woman running frantically along the main Zamzama Boulevard and a motorcyclist pursuing her.

The policeman opened fire at the suspect and managed to injure him. However, the suspect retaliated and shot the cop too.

Constable Junejo was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment and his condition was said to be serious.  

The suspect, however, managed to flee the scene despite his gunshot wounds. Police teams were conducting raids for his arrest, but had no leads as yet.

‘Street criminal’ gunned down

A suspect who was allegedly running away with his accomplice after looting a citizen was gunned down in an encounter in Shah Latif Town, Malir SSP Rao Anwar said in a statement on Tuesday.

Shah Latif SHO Amanullah Marwat said 30-year-old Rasool Bux, son of Faqeer Muhammad, was killed and his associate managed to make a getaway during a gun battle in Shah Lateef Town, Sector 9-B.

He said the two men were fleeing on a motorcycle after looting Rs3,000 and a cell phone from complainant Aslam, who called in police helpline 15, near the Matkay Wali Pulia in Malir. 

When the police chased the two men, the SHO said, a shoot-out ensued, leaving Bux dead on the spot. 

He said the killed man, whose body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), was wanted by police in crime cases.

The deceased is said to be convicted in cases of street crimes and released after completing his sentence. His body has been moved to the Edhi morgue.

10-year-old drowns

A 10-year-old girl drowned in underground water tank while playing in her house situated in Shershah area, street 10.

Police said Anaya, daughter of Muhammad, was playing with her friends when she fell inside the underground water tank.

Her body was shifted to a private hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. The heirs took the body for burial without completing medico-legal formalities, police said.
