PTI leader writes hard-hitting letter to NAB chief

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) senior leader Ali Haider Zaidi has written a hard-hitting letter to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Chaudhry Qamar Zaman for his alleged failure to move against the corrupt ruling elite.

In the letter also circulated to the media, he wrote to Qamar Zaman, “It was plain disgusting to see you express your inability or unwillingness to do your job and take serious action against the ruling elite of this country.

“I was present in the Supreme Court of Pakistan that ill-fated day during the Panama case hearing, when the bench summoned you. Anyone with an iota of a conscience would have resigned immediately when an honourable judge of the Supreme Court remarked that ‘NAB had passed away for us today’. But you are still around.”

He wondered what was the point of NAB bragging about an over 70 per cent conviction rate when the NAB chairman had a sheepish attitude towards taking on the ruling family.  “If the corrupt elements of the ruling elite become ‘untouchables’ similar to the notorious American gangster Al Capone, then elimination or substantial reduction of corruption in this society is just a pipe dream,” he maintained.

Zaidi added: “You pocket a hefty salary from the government kitty, funded by the poor nation’s taxpayers. But your pathetic responses to the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly and then to the Supreme Court bench showed that you are incapable of doing your job; or should we assume are part and parcel of this corrupt system.

“Instead of serving the nation, you have only done your job as a court jester of Raiwind. Your job is to catch financial terrorists and punish them. Not striking plea bargain deals with those who possess illegal funds like Mushtaq Raisani,” Zaidi charged.
