This is to draw the attention of the provincial government and the municipal authorities to the garbage situation of Karachi. The city is witnessing a major garbage outbreak. The sanitation mechanism that included the import of heavy machinery from China and an agreement with a Chinese company for garbage collection introduced by the provincial government hadn’t done well to tackle the situation. Heaps of garbage, stains on walls, etc have tampered with the city’s beauty. The provincial government showed interest and the officials toured the city to come up with a plan for garbage collection, but that too like other ventures turned out to be unfruitful. Despite tall claims by the city’s major, the city’s garbage problem is still unchanged. The 100-day cleaning campaign gave no results.
One fails to understand how long it will take to make the city clean again. It seems that every strategy has been unsuccessful. Unattended garbage is the main reason of the outbreak of life threatening diseases. Immediate action should be taken to ensure that the whole city is clean and garbage free. There should be a continuous exercise to remove the garbage from all areas to achieve cleanliness round the year.
