Sindh bureaucracy totally ignoring SHC orders
NAWABSHAH: The Sindh government’s bureaucracy has totally ignored the orders of the Sindh High Court given with regard to teachers who were active in journalism, politics and other fields of their interest by setting aside their teaching responsibilities.
The orders were issued by a division bench comprising Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Mohammed Iqbal Maher of the High Court Bench, Hyderabad, in a petition filed by Manzoor Hussain Abro against the Sindh government and others related.
The court had ordered action against teachers and other government employees who were involved in activities other than their assigned profession. The court had directed that such ghost employees should be brought back to their assigned jobs.
In a report submitted before the court, the Education secretary had provided that a list of teachers who were working as journalists and had informed that action would be taken against them as per law. “For this reason, a 3-member committee has been formed at the divisional level with concerned Deputy Commissioners as their in charge,” he informed.
As per terms of reference, the committees were supposed to ensure that no teacher or government employee should work as a journalist by setting aside their teaching responsibilities. However, neither an action has been taken against them nor the committees have been constituted.
In this regard, another Constitution petition was filed by Marghoob Hussain Rizwan against the Sindh government in which the court ordered the government to ensure that no teacher, lecturer should work as a journalist or in any other field. However, these orders were ignored by the bureaucracy like the previous court orders. The Sindh government, which raises slogans of improving the system of education in the province, seems to be helpless before the ghost teachers.
