PK-661

By our correspondents
December 10, 2016

The doomed flight, PK-661, left dozens of families agonised and posed scores of question marks on the efficiency and credibility of the Civil Aviation Authority. All the 47 passengers on board the plane perished in the deadly crash. Among the passengers were the famous celebrity pop icon-turned-religious scholar, Junaid Jamshed, and the deputy commissioner of Chitral, Osama Warraich. After the 2010 Air Blue and 2012 Bhoja Air plane crashes, it was the third air crash which caused a heavy loss of lives.

Such casualties force us to revamp and overhaul our total aviation system. It goes without saying that the blame cannot be given to a single individual. A number of reasons may be involved in this calamity ranging from technical faults to human errors. As far as this particular tragedy is concerned, it is given out that the pilot reported about the defective engine at the eleventh hour. For ensuring a foolproof air safety, the people at the helm should take notice of all the possible faulty areas and try their best to fix the problems. All aircrafts should be checked at regular intervals with zero error and the health and fitness of the pilots should be given a top priority for a safe journey. This incident should serve as an eye-opener for the authorities concerned and in the light of root-and-branch investigation of this ill-fated tragedy, the future flights should be made more safe and secure.

The incident of the PK-661 plane crash shook the entire nation. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 48 ill-fated passengers including pre-eminent personalities like Junaid Jamsheed, DC Chitral Osama Warraich, and member of Chitral royal family Shazada Farhat Aziz. This tragedy will always be remembered as a dark chapter in our history.

The technical fault of the plane and inability of the Civil Aviation Authority cannot be ruled out. This is not the first time that the alleged carelessness of CAA members have led to such incident. In the past incidents like the 2010 Air Blue and 2012 Bhoja Air plane crashes, the initial reports hinted at the inefficiency and nonchalance of CAA members. The pressing need of the hour is that the government should take steps to overhaul the plight of the national airlines. The government should also ensure the efficiency of CAA members. To sum it up, the authorities concerned must take some tangible and concrete measures in order to bring the people responsible for this incident into the light of justice.

The Havellian plane crash was sad news for every Pakistani. Forty eight people lost their lives because of the incident. Famous religious scholar Junaid Jamshed was also killed in the crash. The incident is not the first one. Several such incidents have occurred in the past.

It is time the aviation authority ensured a safe flying experience to its customers. The government should also look int this matter and raised the standards of the country’s airlines.
