Air Tech 2016 commences at Air University
Islamabad
Air University Islamabad is hosting for the first time the biggest Air Tech 2016 here at the university premises in which 31 universities from all over Pakistan are participating.
The inaugural ceremony of Air Tech 2016 was held here on Thursday in which Air University Vice Chancellor Air Vice Marshal (r) Faiz Ameer was the chief guest. The ceremony was attended by the participating teams from different universities, guests, deans and directors of the university.
Air Tech is the first technical and scientific Olympiad from December 8-10, 2016.
The Olympiad "AirTech'16" is divided into five key categories which are Robotics, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science and Applied Sciences.
The event aims to enlighten the technological and scientific skills of the youth to cultivate and nurture their talent, making them well rounded individuals to serve the national goals of research and scientific advancement. Air Tech ‘16 is a platform where a fair and competitive environment is provided to the students to enhance their practical skills in their respective fields through various competitions. It will also encourage the interuniversity interaction between students and faculty thus enabling them to reach the zenith of academic excellence.
Air University Vice Chancellor Air Vice Marshal Faiz Ameer while speaking on the occasion said that this is the first Olympiad arranged by Air university in which 31 universities, 2,100 participants from 150 teams are participating in the event.
He said: “We floated this idea to hold Olympiad one year back because we have a very strong technical side. We wanted the students to showcase their technical skills. It is an activity which is the hallmark of the university. Technology is not an end in itself, in fact it should be utilized to facilitate the society. They are dependent on each other. When we see the evolution of man, spears and arrows were the first tools of technology that were made by men to catch prey and have food. I want the participating students to enjoy the event as well as think about making the lives easier for the society through technology. Digital technology, Communication and health have tremendous advancements through technology. Social media has impacted many governments creating pressures on them. Not only economy but our ideas have also become globalized and within no time they have a global reach.”
Air University Research and Development Adviser Dr. Afzaal Malik said that it is one of the great events that Air University has been organising over the years. “It is a healthy competition among students to groom their technical skills. Technology has many aspects first its conceptual development, then its strategic planning and then its implementation. Our students are now adopting the paradigm shift in technology and improving their life with it. Our university’s motto is to make life better with technology,” he added. He urged the participants to share their ideas with each other and keep hoping for a better future ahead.
