Man booked in Peshawar for threatening polio worker

PESHAWAR: The police lodged a case against a man for making threats against a polio worker in Khan Mast Colony in the provincial capital. One Zainul Abideen, a resident of Khan Mast Colony, told officials at the Agha Mir Jani Shah Police that he was an area supervisor in the polio eradication programme and was going for duty when one Khan Alam accosted him and pointed his gun at him.

He said the accused told him that he was an agent of the international powers and threatened him with dire consequences if he didn’t quit his job. The police lodged a case against the accused Alam. Meanwhile, armed men opened fire on the house of a tribesman Mohammad Zaman in Mathra village on the outskirts of the provincial capital. He told the police that he had been receiving threatening phone calls. Also, the Agha Mir Jani Shah Police Station lodged a case against one Asif from Badaber for making false statement regarding extortion. According to the police, Asif had blocked the Sarki Road along with a number of people against extortionists, but when the cops probed the matter it transpired that he had money dispute with another person.
