10 accused held in Shareefan Mai torture case

MUZAFFARGARH: Police have arrested 10 people, including main accused Muhammad Afzal, in Shareefan Mai torture case.

Talking to journalists here on Wednesday, DPO Awais Ahmad Malik said that a female accused had obtained pre-arrest bail in the case. The DPO said that the police had arrested all nominated accused of the case and the condition of victim Shareefan Bibi was improving at the Nishtar Hospital. He told that the victim’s lower limbs were injured allegedly by her brothers, a nephew and a woman at Shehr Sultan village on suspect that she was trying to help her niece who wanted to contract love marriage. He informed that two nominated accused, Altaf Hussain and his father Rasool Bakhsh, had been surrendered before him at his office while eight other accused were arrested. However, the accused denied allegations against them and claimed that their sister Shareefan Bibi had trapped them in the case. They claimed that the victim’s son-in-law Muhammad Aslam and his accomplice Munir Ahmed were involved in the case. They alleged that Shareefan Bibi had contracted marriage 13th time as she had got divorced from her 12 husbands. Muhammad Afzal, one of the main accused, suspected that his sister Shareefan Bibi was allegedly involved in the abduction of his daughter Asia Bibi. The girl was reportedly eloped with her paramour two weeks ago. According to the police, Afzal had also got registered a case against Shareefan in his daughter’s abduction case. Meanwhile, talking to media, Shareefan’s daughter Nusrat alleged that her maternal uncles wanted to kill her mother as they had doubted that her mother was involved in the elopement of Asia Bibi.
