AIOU elected executive member of Asian Association of Universities

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) was re-elected member of Executive Board of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) for two-year term.

The election took place at the annual General Body meeting of the association held in Manila, according to a message received here. Pakistan was among the nine countries got elected by the Association’s 59 members. AIOU was nominated by the open universities of Indonesia and Malaysia.

The board acknowledged and appreciated the AIOU’s role as it founding member in promoting quality education through distance learning system.

The board thanked the AIOU’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui for his visionary output and support making the Association strong and vibrant in the Asian region.

The conference during its three-day’s deliberations in Manila discussed academic leadership in open and distance learning (ODL), open educational practices, open educational resources (OER), promotion of online courses including MOOCs, digital and new media literacy and quality assurance in ODEL.

The conference brought together Asian ODL academics, administrators, practitioners, scholars and students to share their experiences in open education and review the region’s contribution towards promotion of open, flexible and effective education for all.

Pakistan was represented at the conference by a University’s senior academician Prof. Zahid Majeed. He briefed the conference about the academic initiatives taken by Dr. Shahid Siddiqui during the last two years, particularly in the fields of research and professional development.

Founded in 1987, the AAOU had been working for promoting higher learning through distance and online learning by smart use of new technology in a unified manner, ensuring quality education for all.
