Court accepts NAB reference against Sharjeel Memon, others
An accountability court (AC) accepted a reference on Saturday against 16 people, including a former provincial minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon, for alleged commission of corruption of around Rs5.76billion.
The reference was filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Sharjeel Memon, Zulfiqar Ali Shalwani, Aneeta Baloch, Mansoor Ahmed Rajput, Mohammad Yousuf Kaboro, Inaam Akbar, Altaf Hussain Memon, Riyaz Manir, Fazal Mehmood, Mohammad Hanif, Asim, Masood Hashmi, Gulzar Ali, Suleman Mansoor Umer, Syed Naveed and Sarang Latif Chandio.
The bureau said that all the accused had committed corruption to the tune of around Rs5.76 billion.
Accountability Court-IV has admitted the reference for conducting trial against the accused. Of the suspects, six have already obtained pre-arrest bail.
Memon, who is currently in self-exile in London, had approached the Sindh High Court in June this year against the initiation of corruption inquiries against him and the placement of his name on the Exit Control List.
He had left the country following a crackdown by law enforcement agencies against corruption in Sindh. NAB is probing corruption and embezzlement charges of billions of rupees in the information department.
