JKCHR highlights Kashmir situation in OHCHR meeting

Islamabad: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Council for Human rights (JKCHR) held a meeting with Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and handed over a 5 page aide-memoire on the human rights situation in Indian occupied Kashmir to the world human rights body, says a press release.

The JKCHR delegation comprised Dr. Syed Nazir Gilani, General Secretary, JKCHR, Javed Muhammad Athar, JKCHR Representative to the UN in New York, Mohammad Yasin Chaudhry, Leader of the opposition in Azad Kashmir Assembly, Lord Qurban Hussain, Member House of Lords and vice chairman APPG on Kashmir and civil society activists, Amjad Hussain and Mohammed Ilyas.

The meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland continued for an hour and both sides made valuable contribution over the Kashmir issue. After the meeting, delegation revisited the merits of the effort and felt very positive. It was opined that every little effort counts at this difficult time in the lives of the People of Kashmir.

Mohammad Yasin Chaudhry Leader of the opposition in Azad Kashmir assembly and Lord Qurban Hussain Member House of Lords and vice chairman APPG on Kashmir made out a strong case in favour of keeping Kashmir under the spotlight and taking urgent steps to stop the gross violation of human rights. Various methods of reporting
 and sensitising the violations of human rights were discussed in detail.
