PTI’s plea against possible arrests sent to full bench

Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali of the Lahore High Court on Monday referred a petition of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf against possible arrests of its workers to a full bench already hearing a petition against the party’s September 30 protest in Raiwind.
PTI lawyer wing leader Gohar Nawaz Sindhu had filed the petition. He pleaded that the police had a plan to arrest party workers to thwart party’s September 30 protest. He asked the court to restrain police from harassing and arresting the PTI workers.
Justice Ali heard the arguments and referred the petition to a full bench that already took up a petition against the Raiwind protest. The full bench would hear the case on September 28.
Notice: The Lahore High Court on Monday sought reply from Lahore Mental Hospital Medical Superintendent on a petition seeking release of a retired female official of Election Commission of Pakistan, Farhat Khan, who was allegedly got detained in hospital as patient by her maternal-nephew in order to grab her property.
Ayesha Mumtaz Bhatti, a human rights activist, filed habeas corpus petition through her counsel Advocate Sarfraz Bargat and alleged that Ali Raza Bhutta, a DMG officer, got her Aunt Farhat detained at Lahore Mental Hospital.
He said he kept her detained to grab her property. The counsel said that Farhat Khan was an issueless woman who had no family or children and was living with her sister who died few years ago. After death of her sister, her maternal-nephew Ali Raza Bhutta got her aunt Farhat detained at Mental Hospital, said the counsel. He said the petitioner personally knew Farhat Khan and had good relations with her but now the hospital administration was not allowing her to meet Farhat Khan.
convicted: An anti-narcotics court on Monday awarded three years jail to a drug-pusher namely Sadaqat.
The court has imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on the convict. In case of default in payment of fine the convict will face further six months jail term.
According to the case details, Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had arrested Sadaqat from Shahdara and seized three kilogram hashish from their possession. Later, ANF submitted challan against him to the court declaring Sadaqat guilty of drug trafficking. On Monday, the court after hearing the final arguments of both the parties convicted Sadaqat.
