LAHORE

A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court with a request to put three MQM leaders on the exit control list (ECL).

Barrister Ali Gillani said that Dr Farooq Sattar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Khwaja Izharul Hassan had endorsed anti-Pakistan statements of their party chief Altaf Hussain. The lawyer says the respondents are also guilty of sedition by not openly disapproving of the anti-state sentiments of their London-based leader. He expresses apprehensions that the respondents might flee the country in the wake of government’s action against the MQM.

FIA comments: An Additional District and Sessions Court on Saturday sought comments from the FIA Director in a petition seeking registration of a criminal case against a human trafficker for sending the petitioner’s son to Malaysia and getting him arrested there. Muzaffar Iqbal submitted that accused Waqas told him that he could send his son Usman to Malaysia and arrange a job for him. He said that they paid Waqas Rs350,000. But the accused refused to arrange a job in Malaysia and deliberately kept his son there and after some time got him arrested, he added. He prayed the court to direct the FIA to register a case against the accused and take steps for the release of his son.
