LAHORE: Former president of Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jahangir on Wednesday warned that situation in the country was serious and the politicians should change their attitude.
Talking to media at the premises of Lahore Bar Association, she said both PML-N and PTI must avoid chest-thumping on the NA-122 verdict. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq had the right to move the Supreme Court on the issue, but what would the PML-N have to show to people, if it was the decision was upheld, she remarked.
She also questioned what respect the PTI would enjoy, if the tribunal’s verdict was reversed.
Asma was critical of the federal and provincial ministers for criticising the tribunal judge, Justice (r) Kazim Malik, but said he should not have given interview to media.
She said a semi-martial law had been imposed in the country with the military leadership occupying the politicians’ turf, adding that the nation would not forgive the politicians dancing to the tune of army.
Asma remarked that Imran Khan started beating the drum, if the decisions favoured the PTI but said he did not accept the civilian institutions, when those were against him. “The country cannot be run in this manner,” she said, adding that the history showed the military could not mange the country.
