Days of martial laws are gone, says Imran

QUETTA: The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, on Tuesday stressed the need for strengthening democracy in the country, saying the days of martial law in Pakistan were gone.

“Days of martial laws are gone,” the PTI chief said, adding that there is no democracy if the head of a nation considers himself above the law.Talking to media persons here, he said that the Panama Papers investigation would help strengthen democracy in the country. “I should be held accountable on the same terms of reference as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,” Imran said.

He added that none of his party’s demands called for the imposition of martial law in the country.Speaking about the deadly terrorist attack in Quetta which left over 70 dead and more than 100 injured, the PTI chief said that blame cannot be assigned to anyone until sufficient information was available.

Imran Khan proposed that police be made apolitical to improve the security situation in the country. He further said that the National Action Plan needs to be fully implemented to counter the terrorist elements in the country.He said the entire nation stands behind the armed forces, adding that despite political differences, the people are united on national issues.
