ISLAMABAD: The controversial and provocative speech of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Monday echoed in the National Assembly (NA).
Treasury benches legislator Major (retd) Tahir Iqbal advised the MQM lawmakers to keep their distance from the speech as it was tantamount to treason.Just before the adjournment of the Monday’s sitting, PML-N legislator Tahir Iqbal on a point of order came hard on Altaf Hussain for his provocative speech which he delivered in London and said this speech was tantamount to treason.
Though the MQM legislators stood up to reply to the point of order, Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbassi adjourned the session till Tuesday.Speaking on the point of order, Major (retd) Tahir Iqbal said that Karachi is a part of Pakistan and would not allow anyone to occupy it.
He said the MQM used to stand with the army during the Musharraf regime and now when action against the extortionists and criminals was launched, they started to criticise the army. “The operation in Karachi was launched on their demand against the criminal elements and to purge the city of terrorists and criminals,” he said.
He said it was better for the MQM to stay away from Altaf Hussain as his statements would not help the people of Karachi. He accused the MQM of killing its own people.Though the MQM legislators stood up to reply the speech of PML-N MNA, the deputy Speaker adjourned the session.
Earlier, former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali took on the government for not taking the advice and moving forward to privatise the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).On a point of order, he said the file of PSM privatisation was also presented to him during his government but he did not sign it as that time the PSM was earning profit.
