ALPURI: The District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, Alpuri, has become a nuisance for the people due to the severe mismanagement and lack of medical facilities at the health facility.

This was revealed by Shangla deputy commissioner during a meeting of the District Development Advisory Committee. He said that DHQ hospital was plagued by severe mismanagement, with medical facilities almost non-existent and patients being referred to other hospitals.

According to the DC, the hospital’s administration was guilty of negligence and lack of interest, causing immense hardship to the people. He has also disclosed that the hospital’s medical superintendent admitted that a Class-IV employee deliberately damaged the ultrasound machine by inserting elfy glue into it, forcing patients to seek ultrasound services from private centres.

The DC described this as blatant corruption and a grave injustice to the people. He also noted that the hospital administration failed to hold regular meetings or participate in any official reviews. Health experts and elders said that both the administration and elected representatives were well aware of the deteriorating condition of the district’s main hospital but they had failed to take corrective measures.

They alleged that a “mafia” controlled the hospital, the Sehat Sahulat Programme was poorly managed, and surgeries were often conducted without proper diagnosis. They urged the provincial health department and government to take immediate action against those responsible and ensure the provision of proper healthcare facilities in the hospital.
