Four killed as dumper hits motorcycle-rickshaw

Four persons, including two children,  were killed and four others injured when a motorcycle rickshaw was trampled by a dumper truck in the Baghbanpura police jurisdiction on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the Daroghawala area in Baghbanpura where the ongoing construction of the orange line metro train left transportation and road safety conditions in a deplorable state.

The motorcycle rickshaw was filled to capacity when it was run over by the dumper truck. Rescue authorities arrived after being told by area locals, and the passengers of the rickshaw were shifted to  hospital where the doctors pronounced Mulazim Ali Khan, 34, Ahmad Shah, 40, his son Nauman, 10, and an unidentified 12-year-old dead. Meanwhile, Amir, 45, Wasim, 3, Shamim, 30, and Razzaq were admitted to hospital where doctors said that one of them was in critical condition.

The driver of the dumper truck fled the scene, but accosted by the police and arrested. Bodies have been shifted to morgue. 

Man dies: A 60-year-old man died in mysterious circumstances in the limits of the Defence C police station on Sunday. Muhammad Rizwan of Mian Singh Defence C had an exchange of heated words with a next door neighbour over minor construction related issue. He fell to the ground during the spat with his neighbour and fell unconscious. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced brought dead. Police suspect that he died of cardiac arrest, but his heirs have asked that FIR be registered under Section 302 of the PPC. Police said the body had been shifted to city morgue to ascertain the cause of the death. 

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old woman died of a cardiac seizure in the Naulakha area on Sunday. The woman identified as Shamim Bibi hailed from Karachi. Police said that the lady, who had come to the city to see her relatives, suffered a severe heart attack and died. Police shifted the body to morgue.

Body found: A 30-year-old man was found dead in unknown circumstances in Ravi Road police jurisdiction on Sunday. The man yet to be identified was found at Sabzi Mandi by area locals who informed relevant authorities. Police suspect the man was a drug addict, but have shifted the corpse to city morgue for autopsy. 

missing: A nine-year-old girl went missing from the area of Defence B on Sunday. The missing girl was identified as Nimra of Nadarabad Defence B. The girl’s parents claimed that the girl went to a bazaar, but did not return home. They suspected that some unidentified people kidnapped her. 

42 outlaws arrested: Punjab Highway Patrol arrested 42 criminals including 15 proclaimed offenders. According to a press release, PHP teams arrested 15 POs namely M Ramzan, Fazal, Irshad, Faiz Hussain, Shahid, Sahib Yar, Munir Ahmad, M Imran, M Iqbal, Lal Badin, Abid Hussain, Ghulam Shabir, Umar, Ashiq Hussain and Yasin. The PHP teams arrested 18 criminals namely Mudassar Farooq, Affaq, Mehmood, Ghulam Shabir, M Ali, Asif Hussain, M Irfan, M Iqbal, Mudassar, Ghulam Faird, M Hamza, Naseer, Waqas, M Yaqoob, Abdul Wahab and Adeel and recovered 210-gram Chars, 268-litre liquor, 9 pistols from their possession. Moreover, a PHP team reunited 8 children namely M Zeeshan, M Bilal, M. Ateeq, Hadir Ali, M Shahbaz, M Waseem, M Waqas and Ahmad Ali with their families.

Two girls injured: Two young girls were injured when a high voltage wire fell onto their house roof in Shahdara on Sunday. The girls, who have yet to be identified, were playing on the roof of their Hameed Park house when a wire of 11,000 voltage fell as a result of rain, and they received serious burns. They were shifted to hospital where their condition was said to be critical.
