BADIN: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Friday said Pakistanis were more pro-democracy than the Turkish people and will staunchly resist if Pakistan faced a situation similar to the recent upheaval in Turkey.

He said this while addressing a public gathering in the Matli city on 23rd death anniversary of former Sindh minister Dr Mohammad Ismail Udhejo.

He lashed out at the prime minister for his focus on Lahore, totally neglecting the Seraiki areas and three other provinces, including Sindh. He said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif seemed to have learnt no lesson from his bitter past mistakes.

He said there was a sense of deprivation among the people, which was very dangerous for the Federation. “Nawaz Sharif is jeopardising democracy and the Federation, as the federal government is unnecessarily intervening in Sindh on the Rangers issue,” Khursheed said.

He said the government was sincerely working but some people were creating hurdles in the provincial matters which, he said, was against the constitutional values.

He said Benazir Bhutto tried to wean Nawaz Sharif off the philosophy of General Ziaul Haq but he was again doing the same thing.

He said Nawaz’s slogan of “Jag Punjabi Jag” was weakening the Federation and warned that if he did not mend his ways he would bring about his own downfall and of his government.

The opposition leader said only the PPP could steer the country out of the present crises and gather the angry people of other provinces on one platform.

He said the PPP leaders right from ZA Bhutto to Benazir Bhutto struggled against dictators and laid down their lives but some people
due to bad governance of Mian Nawaz were inviting the army to take over, which would be disastrous for the country.

He said Dr Udhejo was a martyr as he died in a road accident when he was going to Islamabad to participate in the long march announced by Ms Bhutto against the-then government of Mian Nawaz Sharif.
