Aqil to head POA’s sports commission
KARACHI: Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sports minister Syed Aqil Shah has been appointed as chairman of the sports commission of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).
The sports commission is an integral part of the POA and is formed after every election of the National Olympic Committee.
KP Olympic Association said in a press release on Sunday that POA chief Lt Gen (retd) Arif Hasan chose Aqil for the seat because of his long experience in sports in Pakistan.
The commission will make strategies for sports promotion, organise different programmes and courses and look after the affairs of major national events.
POA secretary Khalid Mehmood will serve as secretary of the commission.
The other members of the commission are Rizwan-ul-Haq (rowing,), Col Waseem Ahmed (taekwondo), Haider Khan Lehri (softball), Col Junaid Alam (Army), Mohammad Razzaq Gul (WAPDA), Idrees Haider Khwaja (Punjab), Ahmed Ali Rajput (Sindh) and Miss Sumaira (POA lady member).
The commission will hold its first meeting in Lahore on July 13 during which it will announce the disciplines for the 32nd National Games to be held in Quetta from November 5-12 this year.
