COVID-19 pandemic once gripped the world and there were many conspiracy theories about its vaccine - which might not all be wrong.
Recent research has found that Pfizer’s COVID jab might be linked to major eye damage - affecting cornea’s inner layer, called the endothelium.
According to Daily Mail, researchers in Turkey took a sample size of 64 people and measured their corneas’ inner layer before taking the Pfizer dose and then two months after receiving the second dose.
Shocking results revealed that the vaccine led to thicker corneas meaning temporary weakening of endothelium. However, the immunized people didn’t suffer any problem in vision.
The research reveals that healthy eyes won’t be affected by this but if these changes in endothelium last for years, they could lead to blurry vision, especially in those with pre-existing eye problems.
Cornea, the clear front part of the eye that allows light to enter, can thicken temporarily due to inflammation or fluid buildup but it isn’t automatically harmful.
Pfizer-BioNTech jabs increased cornea thickness by 528 to 542 micrometers, which isn’t a threat but if it stays thick for months or years, it could affect one’s vision.
The team of researchers didn’t advise against vaccination as they still need to perform long-term testing on patients to see if these changes persists.
