Nasir urges Zardari to ensure Sindh’s representation in OGDCL, KE
President of Pakistan Asif Zardari on Saturday met Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah at the President House, Islamabad, and took a briefing on Sindh’s energy issues.
Shah said one of the key reasons behind power challenges in Sindh was the lack of representation of Sindh in key national energy companies, including the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and electricity providers such as the K-Electric (KE), which often led to decisions that overlooked the province’s interests.
Officials said the energy minister urged the president to ensure Sindh’s representation in the OGDCL and KE. He said the Sindh government’s representation in the KE’s bodies was necessary to effectively address public grievances.
Zardari said Sindh was the energy hub of the country and all it issues would be resolved promptly.
The energy minister also informed the president about the establishment of Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Sepra) and efforts to make power cheap in the province.
Shah said Sepra aimed to empower the province with the principle of ‘Own Electricity, Own Tariff’ allowing for relief from the burden of expensive electricity for Sindh’s citizens.
