Security policy for banks issued by South Range
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Asad Raza, Chief South Range, on Friday announced to further tighten the security of banks, and has directed the SSP South to issue an advisory to bank managers for enhancing the security measures.
Officials said that a major decision has been taken by the DIG South in Karachi to protect those taking money from banks from robbers. According to the details, now it will be mandatory for those withdrawing money of five lakhs or more to take police security. An advisory has also been issued by the South Police in this regard.
The advisory letter issued to bank managers read, “In the light of current law and order situation in the city, this office is advised to implement the following mandatory instructions for the safety and security measures of the general public. Develop a movable bunker for your guards; increase your guard duly trained and with bulletproof jackets and metal detector devices and install walk-through gates at Entry Points as well. Increase and upgrade CCTV coverage to at least 8MP night-vision with facial recognition system (FR) with minimum 30-day storage and backup.
Moreover, if any person is sitting in the bank without reason, be checked and informed to area police. The ATM automatic lock system is advisable. Hire security guards only from registered agencies. All guards must be Ex-Army, Ex-Rangers and Police, with proper police verification.”
The letter further read, “Nominate a bank staff, who check all security guard deployed at the bank during holiday(s). Implement strict access control including secure doors and gates to prevent unauthorised entry and maintained heightened vigilance. Install Neighbouring Alarm System.
“In case of withdrawal of cash more than or equal to Rupees 05 Lacs, the concerned Bank Manager shall be bound down to inform the local police station for provision of security to such client(s).”
