LAHORE

Azad Jammu & Kashmir former Prime Minister Barrister Sultan Mehmood has warned if the polls were rigged in the valley like the Indian government had been doing in the occupied Kashmir, the freedom movement of Kashmiris will suffer.

Addressing a ceremony hosted in honour of AJK voters on Friday, Barrister Sultan Mehmood said the polls in the valley would have an impact on Pakistan. He predicted mid-term elections in Pakistan after the AJK polls.

Addressing the ceremony, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf central leader Jehangir Tareen said that PTI would form government in AJK as a result of the upcoming polls while defeating the PML-N mafia. The PTI leader said that PTI would not only emerge victorious in the Azad Kashmir elections but also ensure that people of the valley had their say in the decision concerning their region rather than seeking dictation from Islamabad.

He alleged the PML-N had the history of making hollow claims and false promises. He said that during the by-election campaign in his constituency, the PML-N had announced a development package of Rs 2.5 billion but not a single penny was spent there after its defeat.

Abdul Aleem Khan, senior leader of PTI, said that PML-N would once again undergo a real test in LA-37 polls after NA-122 by-polls which it won by 'rigging.'

In a joint press statement, FAPUASA Acting President Kaleem Ullah Barreach, General Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, President Punjab Chapter Dr Sohail Aftab, President Islamabad Chapter Dr Asif and others said the body had met HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed on May 17, 2016, in which it was decided to form various committees to resolve TTS and other issues of the academic fraternity. However, the decisions have not been implemented.

gate reopens: The relationship between University of Health Sciences (UHS) and Sheikh Zayed Hospital seems to be thawing as the gate between the two institutions was reopened after a period of more than a decade here on Friday.

The gate was opened in a ceremony which was attended by UHS Vice-Chancellor, Maj-Gen (r) Prof Muhammad Aslam, Chairman Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Prof Dr Farid Ahmad Khan and senior faculty and management of both the institutions.

Chairman Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Prof Dr Farid Ahmad Khan said the reopening of the gate would facilitate the faculty, staff and students of both the institutions. UHS VC also expressed best wishes for the prosperity and development of both the institutions on that occasion.

A UHS spokesperson said the gate was closed in 2005 when a cold war started between the two institutions on some administrative issues. However, after the Punjab government affiliated the medical college and postgraduate teaching institute of Sheikh Zayed Hospital with UHS earlier this year, there has been a continuous improvement in relationship.
