Cost-of-living crisis
The rapidly increasing cost of living in Pakistan is making life increasingly difficult for the ordinary citizen. The surge in prices of basic commodities such as flour, sugar, vegetables, and fuel has placed an unbearable burden on low- and middle-income households. Salaries have remained stagnant, while inflation continues to soar, widening the gap between income and expenses. The situation is especially dire for daily-wage earners and those on fixed incomes. Many families are being forced to cut back on essential needs.
While global economic trends do play a role, much of the current crisis is rooted in mismanagement, corruption and lack of long-term planning at the national level. I urge the government and policymakers to take immediate steps to control inflation, stabilise the currency, and implement social welfare programs to support those most affected. Ensuring transparency, reducing unnecessary government expenditures and promoting local production can also help ease the economic pressure on citizens.
