The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) faced all opponents alone in the Umerkot by-election and defeated them, whereas the opposition parties were trying to cover up their embarrassment, said Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Shah on Friday.

In a statement, he said the opposition’s allegations were nothing but noise as a cover for their embarrassing defeat. He added that the people of NA-213 Umerkot had once again placed their trust in PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He mentioned that NA-213 was traditionally a PPP seat, a legacy of the late Nawab Yousuf Talpur, and its residents included both PPP supporters and opposition voters.

The result of the Umerkot by-election was consistent with the last three elections, Shah said. He highlighted that in the 2018 general elections, Talpur received 164,000 votes while the PTI's Shah Mehmood got 104,000 votes.

In the 2024 general elections, Talpur had garnered 175,162 votes, with all opposition candidates receiving 105,229 votes, and now in 2025, PPP candidate Saba Talpur received 162,000 votes while opposition candidate Lal Malahi got 82,000 votes. He asserted that the PPP faced all opponents alone and delivered them a crushing defeat.
