Islamabad:The CDA Mazdoor Union has warned of a city-wide strike if the plan to privatise the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) sanitation services is not withdrawn.
A large protest demonstration was organized by the CDA Mazdoor Union CBA Committee against the proposed privatization, drawing thousands of employees, including the union’s central office-bearers.
Addressing the rally, Pakistan Workers Federation Secretary General and Mazdoor Union leader Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin, along with President Aurangzeb Khan, Waris Daleep, Malik Dilshad, Chaudhry Munir, Tashkeel Javed Bhatti, Nazir Bhatti, Farooq Noor, Ilyas Tufail, and other officials, strongly condemned the move. They credited the tireless efforts of CDA workers for Islamabad’s international recognition as a clean and well-maintained city. Chaudhry Yasin criticized the government’s decision to introduce a solid waste management company, terming it an attack on the rights of CDA employees. “Such actions under a democratic government are unacceptable to the city’s stakeholders. We fully support the CDA Mazdoor Union’s leadership and workers in resisting this privatization plan,” he declared.
He reminded the audience that Islamabad had previously suffered when it was handed over to local bodies, turning the city’s beauty into neglect and disorder. “We pay tribute to the dedication of Chairman CDA Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Member Administration Talat Mahmood, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, and all CDA employees for their continuous hard work,” he added.
